Spot Bot Training

The Marine Corps’ Four-Legged Friend Is A Whole New Level Of Cool.

This week the US Marine Corps got to train with a new recruit; ‘Spot’ – or as we’ve aptly named him “Spot Bot” – a hydraulically powered robot dog. But this dog does much more than just ruin your furniture. The 160lb creation has been undergoing tests and training with soldiers throughout the week to see how it could fare under different conditions.

Spot has been designed with versatility in mind; with the ability to operate both inside and outside its role could be extremely useful and flexible for the marines. One of the accompanying roboticists Ben Swilling – from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) – felt Spot could be an extremely beneficial asset for the military. Swilling stated, “”I think a robot like Spot has tons of opportunities we could use it for, like scouting or load carriage.”

We’re certainly extremely impressed by Spot’s capabilities and we think you will be too! Check it out in all its glory in the video below from Boston Dynamics.

We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Until next time, have a great day!
