The tech giants Apple bring their virtual payment scheme to us Brits – Apple Pay
Customers simply register their card details to the system, then they can use their Apple device to make purchases in shops, restaurants and many other locations!
It’s extremely simple to use; just bring the device close to the contactless reader and use the fingerprint sensor to confirm identity. Or, if using the Apple Watch, double-click the side-button.
Unfortunately, the only devices that are compatible at the moment are the iPhone 6, 6 Plus and the Apple Watch. The purchases are also limited to £20 currently – set to increase to £30 in September. However, stores can upgrade software to recognise fingerprints as an alternative to pin codes, so this isn’t the biggest problem. Although, the service is only available to people aged 13 and over, so there are a few restrictions.
The service is widely available though, with the UK’s leading credit card providers signing up, including Visa, Mastercard and American Express. With a generous amount of banks and building societies participating as well and more still to come, this service could be extremely successful!
